The Benefits of the Water Heater Fitness Program

Keep your water heater in shape with our help! Anyone with an electric water heater (of at least 50 gallons) can benefit by enrolling in URE's FREE Water Heater Fitness Program!

Water Heater Fitness participants receive the following benefits:

• FREE repair or replacement of elements, thermostats and resets
• Phone lines open 24 hours a day
• Service in emergencies within 24 hours
• Service regardless of water heater's age
• URE installs and maintains the Radio Control Switch (RCS) on your water heater for free
• Replacement electric water heaters offered at URE's cost

Participation requires we connect a Radio Control Switch to the water heater. This switch allows the Cooperative to shut off your water heater during peak demand periods. (This is generally during the late afternoon of a few of the hottest days of summer or the very coldest days of winter.)

By participating in the Radio Control program you help us all save on the demand for energy when it's most expensive. That helps the Cooperative to control the rate you pay on your electric bill!

We do not recommend the Water Heater Fitness program for poorly insulated water heaters and those of less than 50 gallons. Radio control of such heaters may leave you with too little hot water after power has been returned.
