Power Quality
Protect your sensitive equipment
Power quality is a broad term that encompasses many issues of electric interruption or fluctuation. Generally a power outage or a blink is something that you can see in your business. Businesses that have computers, phones or other critical devices that need power interruption protection should be connected to a UPS (uninterrupted power supply).
There may be other more frequent power fluctuations-surges, spikes, swells, sags- that you don’t see. These power fluctuations may be as a result of internal equipment operation (motors/inductive loads) in the building or from external sources (lightning).
While we do everything possible to maintain our distribution system and provide quality power, many factors that affect the power that enters your business are out of our control. Lighting, demand from equipment, object contact with power lines, and the delivery of power to us may all cause inconsistencies that we cannot prevent.
To protect against these types potential problems the IEEE recommends that transient voltage surge suppression protection be placed on every electrical, CATV or phone conductor that enters your building.

Metering
URE provides all members with an electric meter for billing purposes. These meters are electronic and monitor kilowatt hours (kWh) and demand energy (kW). This information is transmitted to URE via the power lines and used in the monthly billing to its members. URE also manually checks some of its meter reading and equipment to ensure that the equipment is functioning properly on a regular basis.
In the event that there is a need for specific information on electric usage beyond the monthly energy readings URE can provide a more sophisticated metering package at the members expense. Concerns with power quality may also be tracked through special request of URE's technical services staff. This will require the installation of special voltage recorders at the transformer or inside the facility.
Lighting
Services that provide safety and security at night

URE provides street lighting services to industrial customers, residential developers and communities for roadway lighting.
In addition to streetlights, URE offers private outdoor lighting services for business parking lots and grounds. To learn more about the types of lights and operating charges please review the Outdoor Lighting Rate Schedule.
Distributed Generation (solar & wind)
URE is contracted with Buckeye Power for supplying electricity to its members.
Through our agreements with Buckeye we are NOT allowed to have large power generating systems interconnected.
URE does have a rate schedule for supplemental generating systems under 25kw.
These may be connected upon filing the necessary documentation and submitting a copy of the URE Interconnection Agreement 602 Cogen Rules.
Members installing larger natural gas or diesel –powered generators that can be operated during emergencies are not required to file an agreement however URE should be notified. This information assists the Cooperative employees that are working on power lines during outage situations.
